Youth Group - Aug. 29, 2010
 Larry Villados (left) talked to the youth group with thier parents about the homeless situation in Kona. Our Youth Group has continued to meet, sharing fellowship, food, and fun!! Last week Friday, following an ono and diverse hot dinner prepared by our parents, Larry Villados of the Office for Social Ministry, who also sings with our St. Michael’s Choir, helped us continue on our theme of “Service In Our Community.” He talked to us about his work with the homeless and the issue of homelessness in general here in our Kona community. This eye-opening and informative talk-story session gave our Youth ideas on how we can take action and to be positive influences in our town. Check out what we have planned:
- September 3rd—Youth prepare spaghetti dinner, and putting together care bags (for our homeless). Physical activity to follow.
- September 17th—Potluck dinner followed by Street Outreach—passing out “care bags” to the homeless around Alii Drive
- September 30th—In collaboration with the group that feeds the homeless, our Youth will serve hot meals at St. Michael’s at 5pm to the homeless; Outreach & Banana Split Fun (in place for Friday, October 1st)
- October 15th—Potluck dinner, preparing for Advent (signing to music) and Activity.
North Kona Catholic Community’s Youth Group continues to meet every first and third Friday of the month at St. Michael’s grounds by the Gift Shop. So, if you are in Grades 6th through 12th, please join us! This is just for you! The plan is always to have a good time. Call Thelma and Sylvia at 430-9118.

Aloha! Also Means Goodbye
It is with great honor and excitement that I am informing all of you that I will be leaving on Monday, July 19th to pursue my studies for the ordained priesthood in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. Although I regret that I will be unable to continue my position at St. Michael's as Youth Minister, I hope that all of you know that you will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. This year I have had the absolute pleasure of helping this community to form the youth of today's Church, and I plan to continue to do so with the Aloha Spirit! Thank all of you for welcoming me into your 'Ohana and I hope all of you will keep in touch!
